Fun dives
Come and enjoy recreational diving - let a Dive Pro guide you on your dives in Lake Grevelingen or the Oosterschelde
You have your certification. What next?
Your certification is the beginning, not the end. Diving regularly keeps your skills sharp and lets you discover more and more of the stunning underwater world of Zeeland — or wherever else you travel.
Dive School de Grevelingen organises guided dives in the Grevelingenmeer and the Oosterschelde. Always with an experienced divemaster or instructor, always in small groups of maximum two divers per guide.
Guided dives in the Grevelingenmeer
A calm saltwater lake with no tides. Dive whenever you like, all day long.
The Grevelingenmeer is our home water. On busy days and weekends you will find us at our regular dive site, Kerkweg. No current, excellent facilities and a rich underwater world with crabs, lobsters, sea stars, anemones, nudibranchs and sometimes even a bobtail squid.
We also dive at other spots in the Grevelingenmeer: including the Gemaal near Dreischor, the Frans Kok reef and Het Koepeltje near Scharendijke — depending on weather conditions, how busy it is and your preferences.
Guided dives in the Oosterschelde
Tides, current and a world full of life. The Oosterschelde is Zeeland at its finest — diving in the largest national park in the Netherlands.
The Oosterschelde has tides. That means current: sometimes strong, but always with a few brief windows each day when the water comes to a standstill. Those slack water periods are usually the best time to dive.
The tides make the Oosterschelde a dynamic environment — unpredictable, especially for visibility. But that is exactly what makes it so beautiful and biodiverse, with species rarely or never found in the Grevelingen: seahorses, nudibranchs, cuttlefish, larger fish, and occasionally a ray or a shark.
Please note: the Oosterschelde is not suitable for beginners. The current and often limited visibility make diving here a little more demanding. For a first dive in Zeeland, start in the Grevelingenmeer.
Frequently asked questions
What does a guided dive at Diving School de Grevelingen cost?
See our price list for the actual price of a guided dive. When you do more dives or dive with more people, the price per dive per person becomes lower. The price of a guided dive always includes the use of full diving equipment. Where necessary, we give you extra equipment, such as a dive computer, dive light and DSMB. We dive with a maximum of two people per guide and the planned dive time for a guided dive (fun dive) is always 50 minutes (depending on air consumption and conditions).
Do I need a dive certification for a guided dive?
Yes, for a guided dive (fun dive) you need a valid dive certification, such as an SSI Open Water Diver or equivalent certification from a recognised organisation. Not yet certified? An introduction dive is the right starting point.
What is the difference between diving in the Grevelingenmeer and the Oosterschelde?
The Grevelingen is a calm saltwater lake with no tidal currents, accessible for all levels and throughout the day. Visibility averages 2 to 5 metres; water temperature ranges from 2°C (winter) to 21°C (summer). The Oosterschelde has tidal currents and is even more biodiverse with species such as seahorses, cuttlefish and rays, but requires more experience; an AOWD certification is recommended. Visibility in the Oosterschelde is slightly lower on average and can change quite fast with the tide.
How many divers are there per attendant at a fun dive?
During all guided dives at Dive School de Grevelingen, there is a maximum of two divers per divemaster or instructor. This guarantees personal attention and a safe diving experience. Would you prefer to dive alone with a guide? You can. We also offer private guided dives in both the Grevelingen and Oosterschelde.
Can I also do guided dives at night?
Yes, Dive School de Grevelingen also offers night dives in Lake Grevelingen. However, we prefer to go out with a minimum of two people. For the current price of a night dive, see the price list. Naturally, we provide a diving torch.
Long time no dive - can I still join a guided dive?
If you have not dived for a long time, we recommend a refresher course before returning to independent diving or participating in a guided dive. We have several refresher options: a single refresher dive (one-on-one), two refresher dives (one day) or four refresher dives (two days). In all cases, you repeat the theory at home using online knowledge questions. During the dive(s), we make sure you get used again to being underwater, breathing from a regulator and buoyancy control. We recommend repeating several exercises from the Open Water Diver course, such as regulator and mask exercises.
What marine life can I expect in Lake Grevelingen?
In Lake Grevelingen, you will almost certainly come across lobsters. You will also find crabs, starfish, anemones, eels, nudibranchs and sometimes even a bobtail squid (sepiola). The Oosterschelde also has seahorses, cuttlefish, more species of nudibranch, larger fish and who knows, maybe even a shark or ray.
Can I also book a guided dive privately?
Yes. For those who like to have all the attention for themselves during a dive, want to be able to take photographs in peace or do not want to be limited by the air consumption of a buddy, you can book a private guided dive with us. This can be done in both Lake Grevelingen and the Oosterschelde (depending on your experience).
